Gaw Capital Partners is proud to be the charity partner for the ULI’s Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) in supporting the “Educating Girls of Rural China’ (EGRC) Programme, subsidizing female students in high school and university education in the poverty-stricken areas such as Gansu, Guizhou and Qinghai Province in western China. The fund donated by Gaw Capital will be used to support 20 female students’ living expenses in the rural area.
The sponsorship is part of Gaw Capital Partners’ ongoing commitment to ESG. Women plays an important role in the growth and development of the society. We believe that every girl deserves a decent education. Sadly in cultures where a girl’s social status is lower, her education is seen as less valuable. Women have walked down the path which is full of obstacles and now gathered the power of participating in society. Providing tertiary education to female has proven itself to be highly effective at unleashing women’s potential.
Since 2005, EGRC has continuously subsidized more than 1,400 female students in high school and university education in the poverty-stricken areas in Western China. The graduation rate of subsidized students has exceeded 99%.
The Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) was established in 2011 as a global programme of the Urban Land Institute (ULI). Today it has an active global Steering Committee in addition to 40 chapters in numerous countries around the world. The global WLI leaders support local programming and initiatives, helping to increase both the number and visibility of more women leaders throughout ULI’s vast network.
